How to Track Down Unclaimed Money from Government Sources

Hey everyone, I recently read about unclaimed money that might be sitting with the government, and I'm curious about how to track it down. There are so many places that hold unclaimed funds, like state treasuries or federal agencies, but how do you start looking for it? Anyone here had any success finding unclaimed money from government sources?

Great question! A good place to start is your state’s unclaimed property office — every state has a searchable database. You can also check federal sources like the IRS (for unclaimed tax refunds) and the U.S. Treasury (for savings bonds). I personally found an old refund I forgot about this way. For a detailed guide, this article highlights places where you might have forgotten funds: hiding cash It’s surprising how often people find forgotten money — definitely worth a look!

I didn’t realise how many places hold onto funds you forget about, like utility deposits, insurance claims, or old life insurance policies. A few years ago, I found a small refund that was owed to me from a medical service I had completely forgotten about.
