Two different behaviors online vs in person

My partner is very affectionate in person but on social media he acts almost like he's single. Doesn't post anything about us, keeps his tagged photos hidden, and gets tense when I'm near his phone. A friend said her ex did the exact same thing and was actively talking to other people the whole time. What are the best ways to check if someone is misrepresenting themselves online?

Re: Two different behaviors online vs in person

That gap between real life and online presence is such a specific red flag. My coworker's ex was super loving at home but completely "single" on Instagram — no couple pics, hidden tags, always tense about his phone. She eventually looked at his public story activity quietly using private story viewer  without tipping him off, and the pattern of who he was consistently watching told her everything. Turned out he was maintaining a whole separate image for someone else. The phone tension alone is worth paying attention to honestly.

Re: Two different behaviors online vs in person

That real-life vs online-life mismatch can seriously mess with your head because it’s not always one obvious thing — it’s the pattern. Being affectionate privately but weirdly “unattached” online can absolutely make someone start questioning what story is being told elsewhere. I’ve seen how the secrecy around phones often becomes louder than any single post. Sometimes it’s not about obsessing over social media, just noticing when someone’s digital behavior consistently doesn’t match the relationship they claim to value.
