Has anyone here recently gone through vendor selection for a reasonably complicated ecommerce migration?I’m asking because I’ve looked at quite a few agency lists and most of them become useless after the first paragraph. Everyone can migrate products, customers and orders. Everyone says they protect SEO. Everyone has some combination of Shopify, Adobe or Salesforce experience. The harder question is what happens at 11 PM on launch night when the old store has 47 orders that aren’t in the new database, inventory is out of sync and customer service starts seeing accounts that can’t log in.That’s the level I’d use to shortlist companies. Here are the teams I’d currently want to speak with.1. Zoolatech — my pick for complicated migrations with a lot of dependenciesZoolatech would be first on my list if the ecommerce platform sits in the middle of a bigger architecture rather than operating as an isolated store.Their public ecommerce material covers Shopify Plus, Adobe Commerce, SAP Commerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud and composable approaches, with migration planning around dependencies, integrations and phased modernization. They also show an actual B2B move from a custom PHP/Laravel environment into Salesforce Commerce Cloud. That makes more sense to me for a retailer where migration also means dealing with ERP, finance systems, tax, custom B2B logic, legacy services or architecture decisions.I’d probably look elsewhere for a tiny catalog migration where the main task is importing CSVs and configuring a Shopify theme. But for a migration where several business systems have to move together, Zoolatech is the top rated ecommerce migration company I’d put through technical discovery first.2. SDG — interesting for enterprise moves specifically onto ShopifySDG caught my attention because their migration material is unusually specific about the operational side of replatforming: dependencies, migration rehearsals, reconciliation, integration testing, rollback criteria and cutover sequencing. They work on moves into Shopify from Magento/Adobe Commerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Oracle ATG, BigCommerce, WooCommerce and custom systems. For me, they’d be especially interesting if the destination is already decided and that destination is Shopify Plus.I wouldn’t rank them the same way for a business still deciding between Adobe Commerce, Salesforce and Shopify, because then I’d prefer a vendor with less incentive toward one target platform.3. Swanky — worth talking to for a Shopify migration from an established platformSwanky would also make the call list for Shopify replatforming. They have dedicated migration work covering Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud and various legacy platforms, and their process includes discovery, data work and redirect handling.Where I think the conversation needs to go deeper is historical data.I’d ask:How many years of orders are going into Shopify? What stays in an external archive? Will existing customer passwords work? What happens to subscription contracts? How are refunds against pre-migration orders handled? Can customer support still see everything it needs on day one? That tells me far more than “we migrate customer data.”4. IWD Agency — one I’d consider when the destination platform isn’t obvious yetIWD is interesting because it works across Shopify Plus, Adobe Commerce, BigCommerce and headless architectures instead of presenting every problem as a Shopify migration. Its replatforming process publicly describes auditing the existing catalog, integrations, content and important URLs, followed by data reconciliation, parallel running and a planned cutover. That would put them on my list if part of the project is still answering:“Should we actually migrate to Shopify Plus, or are we creating a different problem?”I’d want that question answered before paying anyone to build.5. Innovadel Technologies — worth checking for multi-platform enterprise stacksInnovadel looks relevant where Salesforce Commerce Cloud is part of the conversation, but it also lists work across Shopify Plus, Adobe Commerce, BigCommerce and headless commerce.Their migration offering includes assessment, fixed-scope migration, phased replatforming and post-launch support rather than treating everything as the same engagement. That phased option is something I’d ask about for any large migration.Sometimes “big bang” isn’t brave. It’s just unnecessary risk.6. Cart Blender — interesting for Shopify migrations where the data itself is messyCart Blender is much smaller than some of the enterprise names above, but I wouldn’t automatically treat that as a disadvantage.Their public positioning is heavily focused on Shopify replatforming and data migration, and there are examples involving substantial WooCommerce order and subscriber datasets. For a mid-sized business whose real problem is ugly legacy data rather than enterprise architecture, I’d rather compare a specialist like this against the larger firms than assume bigger agency = safer migration. The technical interview would tell the story.7. Magenest — one I’d look at when Magento is the destinationMost lists seem to assume every migration is away from Magento. That isn’t always the project.Magenest publishes migration services covering detailed Magento data structures including products, variants, categories, customers, orders, invoices, credit memos, shipments, URLs and custom fields. So if the business has already decided Magento/Adobe Commerce is the right target, I’d consider them.Again, I’d separate “can migrate the records” from “can reproduce the business behavior.”Those are different jobs. One thing I’ve started asking migration vendors is:“Show me your reconciliation document.”Not a case study. Not a migration methodology slide. The actual structure they use to prove that the new platform contains what the old platform contained.I’d expect it to cover things like:
