Can a defibrillator stop a healthy heart?

Imagine if you can a busy resuscitation room in a nameless Emergency Department.

The staff are working tirelessly in an, eventually fruitless, attempt to save the life of the patient in front of them.

The cardiac rhythm is Ventricular Fibrillation (VF), one of the two 'shockable' rhythms of cardiac arrest. The paddles of the defibrillator are seized by one of the two Doctors at the bedside, he places the paddles on the chest of the patient, he presses the button to charge the paddles, he 'shocks' the patient.

Re: Can a defibrillator stop a healthy heart?

The AED machine is the main tool of rescuers, so I ordered a couple for myself, without them my work was not effective, I could not quickly save people, but now everything has changed, thanks for such a wonderful opportunity

Re: Can a defibrillator stop a healthy heart?

The room is filled with the beeping of monitors, the sound of urgency in every breath, and the steady motion of hands working with precision. The patient’s body jerks slightly from the shock, but the VF persists, the chaotic, erratic heart rhythm continuing on the screen. One of the nurses is already preparing the next round of drugs, while another checks the IV line for any complications. The other doctor monitors the vitals, calculating the timing for the next shock, ensuring the timing aligns with the protocols. There’s no time for hesitation, no room for error. The patient’s life hangs by a thread, and every second counts. The defibrillator charges again. The first doctor, looking at the patient's lifeless face, hesitates for just a moment, but the necessity is clear—there is no choice but to try again. The paddles are placed once more on the patient’s chest.“Charging,” the doctor calls out. The room seems to pause, collectively holding its breath. The paddles discharge again. The heart monitor continues its relentless beeping. But the rhythm is still chaotic. At this point, time starts to stretch. The sense of desperation is tangible. A sense of futility hovers in the air, but they press on. Another round of shocks, more medications, the rhythmic pattern of life-saving measures. They are working against the clock, against the human body’s own limits. In these moments, the team is not just performing medical interventions—they are pushing against nature, using every tool at their disposal to force a life back into the stillness of the body. But as the rhythm continues its erratic dance, it becomes clear that the resuscitation efforts, no matter how intense, may not be enough.A final glance is exchanged between the doctors. A decision will need to be made soon.In this nameless emergency room, time is a cruel and unforgiving master.
